THE EQUIPMENT Canon EOS-1D MarkII
This simply is the best Digital SLR out there (well, it was until the Canon Mark II Ds and 5D came out). It has an 8.2 mega pixel CMOS sensor capable of firing 8.5 fps (frames per second) in continuous bursts.
This camera has a very large shooting capacity in JPG format, and quite an impressive capability in RAW format. I shoot only in RAW now that Photoshop CS2 came out with all its great RAW conversion tools. The battery is large and makes the camera look like a big square, but it keeps charge for over 1000 shots.
The Mark II has a conversion factor of 1.3x compared to a regular 35mm camera. I usually have my EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens
attached for regular scenery shots. It's not too wide and not too narrow. For me I get just the right amount of most views. However when I want to get in there closer, I use my EF 70-200 2.8 L IS USM Lens. This telephoto zoom responds in as little as 0.5 seconds, while providing up to three stops of correction for camera shake, thanks to the (IS) Image Stabilization technology built into the lens. What also is nice is that both of these lenses are constructed to pro standards and are highly resistant to moisture. (Important for someone living on the Oregon coast!)
